CSC Returning to the Sports Centre
Dear players,
A long but very important message on Cambridge Squash Clubs return to the University Sports Centre. Please read!
Many of you will know that until 2020 we were based exclusively at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre (UCSC). But due to complications around COVID regulations and other matters we diversified our playing base to include Swavesey and Churchill college, while continuing to have a presence at the UCSC, but with no formal arrangements.
As COVID regulations have now settled down we have been working with the UCSC on developing a new relationship that will allow us to work together to develop squash in the city and deliver a good playing environment for our members. We are pleased to announce that we have agreed on a partnership that will see a reduced membership fee at UCSC for CSC players as well as give the club income and court time to run activities and events to promote and engage players. We will still continue to support players at Swavesey and we want to take this opportunity to thank the committee there for welcoming us and working with us over the last couple of years. The club they have built there is at incredible strength and we are not suggesting anyone should leave. However as Cambridge Squash Club we feel it is important that our base is in the city and as such UCSC will now become our home and the base for all our activities.
What will CSC members at University of Cambridge Sports Centre have access to:
Access to the corporate/staff/alumni membership rate – currently £25 a month (normally £28) or £250 (normally £280) a year
No court or light fees – all inclusive price
Ability to play in the evening or lunchtime leagues – CSC will be making a big effort to assist bringing these leagues back to their pre-pandemic strength by offering prizes, meeting new players and encouraging our team players to join
Access to weekly club nights (Mondays) and quarterly super club nights, as well as regular tournaments and socials (squash and non-squash related)
Ability to join one of CSCs multiple men’s teams or women’s team that play weekly in the Cambridgeshire league
Ultimately we will be aiming to bring the club feel back to the venue, giving players more opportunities to meet new opponents and more ways to play.
Cambridge Squash Club Paid Membership (CSC)
To enable all the above to happen we will now start charging members £24 a year for those who wish to join and take advantage of the UCSC offer. This still gives you a better rate on both monthly and annual memberships over standard members. If you do not wish to join UCSC then that is no problem, you can remain a CSC member and keep updated with everything going on, however we may have to charge a small fee for non-paid members to attend certain events to keep it fair.
Ok sounds great, what do I need to do?
Please read the attached PDF which covers the instructions on how to join and benefit from the new rate. New and existing UCSC can benefit but there are different instructions depending on your membership type.
FAQs
Why are we making this change?
CSC has been split across 3 venues for the last 2 years, many of the members were not able to access some of the venues due to lack of transport and we were also having to pay alot for court time for events at UCSC. All this while not having any income and working through our reserves. This change gives the club a base to build from and allows more interactions between members as well as enabling long term planning.
How do I join the evening or lunchtime leagues at UCSC?
Please email alistair_dawson@hotmail.com with your details and rough playing standard and we will get you set up.
Where are team matches being played?
The men’s teams are continuing to play out of Churchill college, this gives more court time at UCSC for members. The women’s team will play at UCSC.
I’m sure there will be many more questions but this email is already very long so please speak to either Ali Dawson (alistair_dawson@hotmail.com) or Joe Reeds (joereeds@gmail.com) for more information. We will be sending out much more info on upcoming events soon.
Please don’t forget to read the instructions in the attached and lets get Squash buzzing again at the University Courts with the CSC vibe.
Many Thanks & Happy Squashing
Ali and Joe
