Junior Squash Sessions Starting 13th October
By Joseph Reeds
Cambridge Junior Squash is taking a new look. As we have been running at the university sports centre for three years now, we want to ensure that our junior program is delivering a fun environment to play and learn squash but also ensure there is a clear development pathway for those wanting to progress into competitive play. As such we have shaken up our program, and we will now be running three sessions throughout the week:
Mini Squad: Saturdays 10:30-11:15
This session is aimed at those just starting in the sport aged 4-9. This is a fun session where children can learn general coordination skills and begin to learn how to start short rallies.
Improver Squad: Saturdays 11:15-12:15
These sessions give the skills to be able to move from being able to hold a short rally through to being able to play a competitive game. We look at technique, movement, shot selection, rules of the game and fitness. Part of this session every week is dedicated to competitive games. This group is split depending on ability to ensure the players can progress their skills.
Our Saturday Squads will start on 13th October and run every week through to December 15th. We will then restart in the new year on Saturday 12th January. Our Saturday squads cost £3.50 for mini's and £4.50 for improvers per session, new juniors get a free taster week. (If cost is an issue, please talk to us).
Performance Squad: Thursdays 17:00-18:30
This new squad will take those juniors who are serious about progressing their squash. It will look to develop players so they can begin to play league level squash, enter junior tournaments and hopefully develop towards county squads. This squad will give juniors more access to 1-1 coaching and the ability to play matches with team players, so they can begin to understand the game at a higher level. This is an invite-only squad, that will run in conjugation with our Saturday improver squad and those who have progressed beyond the Saturday sessions. If you feel that your junior would be interested in this squad, please drop me an email.
Our Thursday Squads will start on 18th October and run through to 13th December. Restarting on Thursday 10th January. Our Thursday squads cost just £3. (If cost is an issue, please talk to us).
Junior Team Matches
As our junior squads have developed we have identified that we have a strong enough squad to now compete against other local teams, as such we will be in touch about team match dates in the near future. We have a very good relationship with other junior clubs in the county and will always ensure that players are evenly matched with the focus on participation as oppose the competition.
Change in organiser
