Dramatically improve your Squash

By Bob Maison

Over the last 30 years or so Sports Science; Coaching and Teaching disciplines have added increasing amounts of scientific facts and data which support the “True-isms” from way back. So “if you want to improve then you need to practice” will now be supported by scientific data on how long to practice and how you need to practice. Take a look at the following link - it’s very entertaining and also very informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MgBikgcWnY However, the practice referred to is very specific. Not a game, not your usual drills, but a very focussed practice with clearly defined goals and outcomes. So, if you are struggling with your Service return, Back hand drop, footwork etc there are drills that can help you improve if you are prepared to put in the time. All this is very do- able if you really ARE keen. If you want advice on specific drills you can find me up at the club. Cheers Bob

I learnt a technique today called the circle of excellence, which is often used to help mental state in sports players. I need to practice teaching it to others, so if anyone is interested, please do get in touch :)
